Requesting the application form is something that should be done as early as possible so that you can be well prepared.
Almost every company will also request a copy of your Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate. We email these to you once the installation is complete but if you’re having trouble locating the email please don’t hesitate to ask – we keep a copy on file and can easily send you another one.
The application forms themselves are reasonably straightforward. Some people have reported confusion with regard to the “Export Meter” question. Export Meters are only required if you plan to sell more than half of what you generate back to your energy supplier, this is rare.
The current position is that the supplier assumes you sell 50% of what you generate to the grid (called your “deemed export”) and they will usually send you a cheque every quarter to reflect this.
If you do anticipate selling more than half of what you generate, some energy companies will install an export meter (some free of charge, others for a fee) but you will need to contact them (or us) to discuss this.
It’s really important to us that this process is as painless for you as possible so I would encourage you to get in touch with any queries you may have - we’ll be happy to help with the Feed-In Frenzy!
